Pennsylvania Patch Coalition

Nonprofit
  /
PSA Campaign
Raising awareness for Pennsylvania State Parks with viral patch designs and kickstarter campaign.
Design Services:
Badge Design, Illustration, Swag & Marketing Collateral

Pennsylvania State Park Patch Series

From the western rapids of Ohiopyle to the eastern falls of Ricketts Glen, we designed a series of patches to celebrate all of Pa’s 121 state parks.
In collaboration with the Pennsylvania Parks & Forest Foundation, the team worked on the Pennsylvania Patch Coalition project with the primary objective of raising funds and awareness for Pennsylvania's 121 state parks. Their ongoing mission to preserve the long-standing tradition of free admission and parking at these parks helps ensure that state parks remained accessible and unaltered for future generations.
‍
Our patches served as a collectible incentive for avid campers and hikers to visit lesser known parks as well as attracting new donors and advocates.

Pa Patch & Badge Design

Evoking nostalgia with retro colors, custom fonts, and bold, vintage graphics
As part of our branding efforts, we created a distinctive visual identity for the Pennsylvania Patch Coalition which was applied to a seres of a collectible badge designs that featured Pennsylvania's iconic landscapes. The designs utilized vintage graphic motifs in a 60’s and 70’s design aesthetic. We selected a retro color palette to evoke a bygone era and appeal to an audience yearning for nostalgic experiences. In addition we designed two custom fonts for the patch designs that referenced mid century park signage found throughout the state's parks and forests.

Kickstarter Brand Assets

Branding a campaign to win hearts and minds of park enthusiasts everywhere.
At a time when the public was gaining a deep appreciation for national parks, we wanted to remind folks that you didn't need to travel across the country to enjoy the outdoors. We launched a campaign to encourage local Pennsylvanian's (and out-of-staters) to enjoy the beautiful parks just within a few hours drive.

To launch a successful Kickstarter campaign, we developed a comprehensive set of brand assets. This included creating engaging graphics that were shared across social media platforms, illustrating the Coalition's mission and the impact of donations. We also collaborated with Vireo Films to produce a compelling kickstarter video featuring breathtaking footage of Pennsylvania's state parks, heartfelt testimonials, and an emotional appeal for support. This video served as the centerpiece of the Kickstarter campaign.
“Here is a great quote from a very satisfied client who had a great thing to say about our services.”

Swag Design & Marketing

Driving donations with quirky swag and merch

To engage and motivate financial supporters, a set of quirky stickers and postcards were designed for different levels of kickstarter donations. These swag designs featured playful illustrations and witty slogans related to Pennsylvania colloquial park culture.

Branding Design Results

The Pa Patch Coalition has donated thousands to preserve the state's natural treasures

In a few weeks, the Pennsylvania Patch Coalition's brand design and Kickstarter campaign achieved remarkable success. The Kickstarter campaign surpassed its funding goal in support of Pennsylvania's state parks. The project gained substantial visibility and support on social media including viral posts on Pinterest and Facebook. Hundreds of swag items and custom patches were distributed to donors, creating a sense of community among park enthusiasts. The Coalition's visual identity and materials were also featured in local and statewide media, increasing awareness and support for the cause.
It was truly rewarding for the team to have been a part of this vital effort, and they look forward to continued collaboration in support of Pennsylvania's natural treasures.

Thank you for the following individuals for their contributions.

Marci Mowry, the President of the PPFF, has been a vital partner for the project in helping us with outreach and focusing our message.
‍
‍Dan Angelucci of Vireo Films took the helm of our video's script, editing, and videography. Without his countless hours of work we could have not achieved a video of this caliber.
‍
‍Russell Edling wrote the beautiful music track for the video. He absolutely captured the feeling of the project.
‍
‍Tracy Blaine lent us his amazing time-lapse footage of Cherry Springs. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Cherry Springs Dark Sky Fund.
‍
‍Gus Melendez, Josh Schott, and Paul Ballard were essential in capturing the photography and videography for the project. They lugged equipment up and down trails for hours and I can't thank you enough.

Also, thank you to Allison Duda and Tom Wildonder for their photographs of Presque Isle and Lehigh Gorge, respectively.

Ready to spread the word about your own good cause?
